Black Banana takes down Gryphons in Overtime (4/19/10)

Black Banana LC hosted the Gryphons LC in a Philadelphia Division Game. Banana dominated possesion throughout the game and put a lot of pressure on the Gryphon goalies, but wasn't putting the ball in the net. BB was still up 3 to 2 at the half. Down a goal with under a minute to play, Matt McKinney put in the game tying goal to send it to overtime. Banana had a long possesion in overtime with a bunch of scoring opportunities till final Eric Bishop stuck a shot from the outide to keep the Bananas in a tie for 2nd place in the Divison with a 3 - 1 record.

Fall Philadelphia Indoor Lacrosse League (PILL) - PILL Website -

Black Banana fields a team in both the Fall and Winter Philadelphia Indoor Lacrosse Leagues (PILL) in Aston, PA which is part of the newly formed Atlantic Indoor Lacrosse League and has been in the Championship game every season the last 2 years, but hasn't taken home the trophy yet! The Fall 2009 season was Banana's best to date, rocking Chinatown Black Banana white jerseys, the team dominated the regular season going 9 – 1. Taking 2 out of 3 games from the rival and strong Dunn Financial team. The two teams met again in the Championship game as expected. Banana played a great game missing a few key players, but the Dunn team was playing their best ball with a full roster and defeated Banana 11 – 5. Bryan Tingle of Dunn was named the MVP after leading the league in scoring once again. Dunn Financial moved on to play for the Eagle Cup against winners of the other Atlantic Indoor Lacrosse League member leagues in DC, Baltimore, and Boston.

Black Banana returned to the Laxtoberfest tournament as the defending champs down in Annapolis, MD the first weekend in October. Banana fielded a team with a core of University of Delaware grads and Laxtoberfest regulars, but was missing a few key players. The team also was dealt a terrible draw as the defending champs and put in the same division as 2 of the other strongest teams in the tourney. Rocking the pink uniforms to support Breast Cancer Research , the team rallied on Sunday the team won all 3 games and took home the B Bracket Championship. Good time had by all as always down in Annapolis. Banana has plans in 2010 to take back the championship!

Freedom Cup

The Black Banana Indoor Team has been very successful the last few years and has become a mainstay in the Philly Box Scene. A team was entered in the first annual Freedom Cup, a tournament run by US Indoor Lacrosse that showcases the best amateur indoor lacrosse teams in the US. The team was comprised of members from both the Black Banana and Dunn Financial Indoor Teams that compete in the P.I.L.L. The team pulled the upset of the tournament by beating the heavily favored and more established Rochester Upstate Bears team.
